City Airport Development Programme, a transformation scheme aimed at providing additional infrastructure and facilities to serve a forecasted 6.5 million passengers a year by 2024. The site’s tight constraints demand a complex phasing strategy, with high quality temporary facilities required to enable the demolition of existing infrastructure and the construction of new. The scope at this Stage was to take the TDS concept through RIBA Stage 3 (Developed Design) for all back and front-of-house areas within the Terminal building.
The interiors concept utilised a variety of wall lining types to create a warm and inviting, yet sophisticated atmosphere to the main passenger routes. This included a mixture of timber battening, black battening, “London Celebration” identity graphic panelling, the “London Bridges” coloured walls, and plain white walls in areas outside the main focal points or gateways in the passenger experience.
